加州野火延烧数天,范围超过2百万英亩(逾89万公顷)土地。美西时间9日上午,旧金山湾区空气中充满烟雾和灰烬,天空、太阳都盖上一层橘红色。从卫星云图角度看,更可见明显大片烟尘垄罩在湾区上空。
中央气象局郑明典分享美国NASA的EOSDIS卫星云图,「不看不知道它的严重,乳黄色部分都是大火的烟尘!在烟尘影响下,白天太阳都会是偏红色的!」
综合外媒报导,由于从太平洋飘来的雾夹在烟雾和地表之间,几乎没有烟味,空气品质也未达不健康标准,但较高海拔的地区相对容易受到影响。
湾区空品管理局发言人拉尔夫(Ralph
Borrmann)说,烟雾过滤掉蓝光,让橘红色和红色的光抵达地面,这说明为何当地民众看到有如「末日馀晖」的景象。
